The flat is around 116 m2 with 2 receptions, 4 bedrooms and 2 baths mainly for parents and two sons. As the house is on the higher floor, the natural light is not blocked by other buildings or trees so one of the main goals for the design team is to bring in the abundant daylight so that the view of the interior space can be expanded and the dividing line among the rooms can be blurred. The team achieved the goal via changing the layout.

One of the design highlights is that under the existing building layout and distribution of beams and columns, the design team use lines to guide the vision, so the lines extend and connect to the whole space. Also, the design team audaciously adopt jet black and grey tone as basic palette in the space which bring out the lively brightness of blue mineral paint on the TV wall and of the orange leather furniture.

In addition, the design team combined many different materials like rough mineral paint, exquisite metal, and delicate veneer to create conflicts. The conflicts among different materials under warm white lights enrich the appearance and the gorgeousness of the space.

Moreover, the island in the dining area divided the space into three parts, dining area, the path to entrance and the path to kitchen. However, the ingenious idea, sharing the same sliding door in the area among kitchen, entrance, and dining area, makes the division of the space more variable. The sliding door is made of reeded glass which can keep not only the penetration of daylight but also the privacy.

The owners expect their sons grow up in a place where they can play freely and joyfully. The design in the parent-child shared study also satisfies owners’ needs. Kids can place their toys in the lower open cabinets and sit, read and play on the raised wood floor.
