Neverland

“Neverland” is around 66-square-meter flat with 2 receptions, 2 bedrooms and 1 baths mainly for a family with a mom and a daughter. Before the epidemic, the owners often traveled abroad for business trips and collected many ornaments to reminisce her trips. Due to Covid-19, the owner hasn’t been overseas for a long time. Therefore, the main concept of the design is to experience the atmosphere of staying at a foreign hotel when the owner stays at home. As the size of the interior space is quite small, the design team extend lines via vertical axis which not only visually increase the height of ceiling but also magnify interior space. The team emphasize the integration of different elements and creations of vibe so the team choose mineral paint and veneer as the main materials which are used in the project. During the post Covid-19 era, more and more people work from home so the island at the dining room combines the functions of desk, dining table and bar. The multi-purpose island meets all needs for the small spaces. The house owners can store documents, magazines, odds and ends and small kitchen appliances at the hidden cabinets under the dining table which can keep the desktop clean. A beam crosses above the island in the dining area. As the height between the beam and floor is insufficient which leads to the feeling of oppression and breaks the integrity of design, the design team decorate the beam with an oblique ceiling shape and extend oblique elements from ceiling to the cabinet in dining area. However, the design team use neat lines and different material to decorate the cabinet with beveled shape in order to stack the texture in the interior space. Due to narrow passage, the beveled shape can avoid bumping when walking as well. The design team extends the height of the curtain box to the ceiling of the restaurant in the overall open-plan space and also decorate the cabinet in the dining room with the shape of grooves showing the continuity of lines and the designer's design ingenuity.
