CREC International Eco-City Baijinggu Nanyuan Villa, Guiyang

The project, located in Longli County, Guiyang, Yunan Province, features advantageous natural resource. Under the circumstances, “nature” is destined to be a key factor for the design. The site occupies an area of 8,500m² with a height difference of nearly 30 meters, which is undoubtedly an opportunity and a challenge.

The original natural site features two 300-year-old trees. We respect them and hoped to take the two ancient trees as the core of the site to carry the memory of the entire community. Therefore, we adhered to the way of “Design Follow Nature”, and used more restraint and inclusive design, which was also a process of using site resource to solve site conflicts.

The site was in the original form of high in the south and low in the north, with a height difference of nearly 30 meters. The project made full use of the terrain, explored the natural conditions of the site, preserved local stones, forest and two 300-year-old trees, adopted the design strategy of minimal intervention and keeping original appearance, used local materials to promote adaptation to climate change, reconcile sustainable ecological resilience, and enhance ecological health. It created a highly recognizable ecosystem that effectively communicates the design intention.

In addition, the preservation and reuse of the original resources of the site were expected to promote adaptation to climate change, reconcile sustainable ecological resilience, and enhance ecological health.
