Conson Financial Center

Conson Financial Center is located in the Laoshan District of Qingdao City. It is a complex of finance, commerce, office and hotel. The heights of three main buildings are 142m, 108m and 54m.

The design replies to complex site challenges: there is an apparent angle between the city road and adjacent buildings, and the shape of the site is narrow and irregular. Therefore, the upper and lower parts of this building adhere to different functional requirements: The skirt building is a commercial space that replies to the site's contours and creates a continuous proximal human scale interface along the urban road network. While the upper part of the building forms a regular volume for the efficiency of office use. All of that inspired the designer to create a twisting gradient in the middle to cohere the differences between the upper and lower parts, making the Conson Financial Center a recognizable urban landmark.

The location is embedded in the mountains and sea, so the building responds to the coastal area with a vibrant design approach. The twisting of the building forms a fluid visual effect, and the repetition of horizontal lines formed by the layers of staggering not only represents a characteristic rhythm but also makes the spatial effect extend horizontally.
