Xinda Hospital

Xinda Hospital is located in the resort of Lake Tai in Huzhou, a city in eastern coastal China. The project is an optimal place to develop elderly care industry thanks to its geographical edges - being surrounded by rivers, connected by comprehensive transportation networks and supported by round infrastructure. On the basis of realizing functions of each space, we have created natural and beautiful landscape environment to integrate sense experience into landscape design. A large area of green space is designed in a curved manner with round trials running through, providing patients with leisure space. The curved trails connect different functional spaces and the complete barrier-free transportation system helps introduce the concept of elderly care garden.


The landscape layout is quite different, being static and dynamic, sparse and dense simultaneously. It also uses isolated space and diversion of crowds to separate the landscape and the hospital chaos in forms. The landscape colour matches the colour system in the Five-element Theory and echoes the traditional Chinese medicine culture. Such a design helps to alleviate patients’ mental pressure and adjust emotion so that serve as a psychological therapy. A combination of lawn and trees and fewer multi-colored shrubs are used to create a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. And decorative landscape elements are added to enrich the visual experience. To reduce the rainwater retention in monsoon seasons, a sunken green space is designed to absorb more water and increase the storage. Trees and vegetation are planted to cut the CO2 emission and to add more oxygen so as to the floating dust particles in the air and mitigate noise pollution. We will restore a natural, comfortable and healthy space for patients with a focus on human touch.
