Sea You There

As a result of the pandemic, yoga practitioners no longer want to use communal yoga mats provided by yoga studios, but also don’t want to carry their own heavy yoga mats. Travel yoga mats and lightweight yoga towels have therefore been born to meet this demand and are the best protective products for yogis. The product has multifunctional characteristics, a small form factor and is extremely light weight to meet the various needs of users. Its lightweight nature allows it to be easily folded and carried, and is also washing machine friendly. Not only does this product meet the needs of urban yogis who commute, it can also be placed on grass, and sand, and be used outdoors, allowing your yoga life to take place both indoors and outdoors.



The designers utilized Penghu (Pescadores Islands), are an archipelago of 90 islands and islets in the Taiwan Strait, that has been studied for a long time, as a stage, implementing “texture” and “gradient” as the main design elements. One of the designs named “Island Garden” uses the naturally formed phytoplankton ecosystems in glacial pothole landscapes to magnify the symbiotic system of the overall ocean, reminding society to minimize damage to the ecosystem. Another design “Gradual balance” uses the natural separation between sea shells, sand, and the sea to mirror the central practice axis of the yoga mat. Along with the unique local shíhù (a fishing device/cultural tradition hand-made from petrified corals), it spreads into a unique landscape where nature and humanity intertwine.



In this design project, the designers aspired to promote the importance of marine environment and ecological preservation through capturing the aesthetic of the marine landscape. Marine life and sea sediments are considered the origin of life and the treasure trove of human resources, and everyone needs to play a part in its preservation.
