The Courtyard of Heart

This project is a clubhouse design case located in Boao Township, China, and it was recognized as one of the “Top Ten Cultural Towns in Hainan.” Due to the town’s geographical advantage of being the meeting point of three rivers and the natural scenery of the blue sea, green sandbar, and beautiful forest, the town has attracted thousands of tourists to visit annually and gradually become a well-known resort. Through the designers’ careful planning, a long-abandoned site and building complex were rebuilt to create an “island retreat type courtyard architecture system,” allowing visitors to immerse themselves in a tranquil and mysterious living environment to cultivate their bodies and develop their physical and mental energy.

The designer adopts a subtractive aesthetic for this project to create a simple and natural spatial appearance. By abandoning flashy shapes and dazzling techniques, the harmonious design of the project responds to the spirit of the native land and pursues a genuinely natural and tranquil life. The primary space of the building is designed with simple and neat colors combined with a simple and streamlined structure, which quietly allows the nature of the environment to be discovered, allowing people to shed their worldly burdens and truly live slowly. As the seeds of human nature emerge from each small window and patio, step by step, they are freed from the world’s barriers, responding to the blue sky and the forest, and entering into the natural light. As one strolls, a soft sea breeze blows in from time to time, and the natural air that comes with it gradually opens up your heart.

The designer cleverly transformed the ordinary natural objects in the environment: sunlight, blue sky, white clouds, native forest, and fresh air, into the core of the spirit of the place in this design project. Through the layout and presentation of the space, the inner spiritual structure is explored and directed toward the depths of one's spiritual light. When one can look at oneself seriously and truly, one can truly perceive the existence of freedom and happiness.
