The brief called for an upscale decor centre design for a developer building a condo hotel for Chef Nobu’s new restaurant and development in Toronto, as well as a design centre for their low rise developments.
The goal was to create a luxurious experience of the mundane and oftentimes incommodious process of choosing finishes and details for a newly built developer homes and condos. Unlike the ubiquitous sales centers that jostle for the attention of buyers, the mood and atmosphere of the Décor Studio simulates that of a high-end European fashion house to rise to the occasion of the Nobu condo, but also raising the experience for home and townhome purchasers.
The space comprises two sections: the Nobu High Rise and Madison Low Rise Design Studios. Both studios share a common reception pivoted by the elliptical reception desk and reflected in the illuminated circular feature ceiling.
The main concept for the Nobu Décor Studio was the fashion runway, where clientele walk down a glossy white catwalk surrounded by finishes and fixture samples of the Condo project displayed on glass shelves. The runway leads to the bar lounge that is in itself reminiscent of VIP lounges in upscale fashion boutiques. High gloss materials are carefully balanced with the contrasting epoxy concrete floor to create an ambiance of a luxury retail experience while still reminiscent of a design studio atmosphere.
Following the successful completion of the Nobu Décor Studio, the adjacent Low Rise Décor Center came to life. The space is strategically organized with a series of rooms and display areas. A custom S-shaped display with sculpted corian shelves on a steel frame guide the movement of clients throughout the decor center. A unique, high gloss black experiential room features both digital and multifunctional displays with 180 degree rotating walls that allow for the dynamic display of finishes and finish sample boards. At the end of the decor studio there is a lifestyle Instagram wall with a built- in swing where visitors can photograph and share their custom design experience on social media, the perfect IG selfie moment!
