Design Project of The Imperial Palace Xiyuan Restaurant

The Imperial Palace Xiyuan Restaurant is located in Shenyang Imperial Palace. Inspired by the unique architectural elements of Shenyang Imperial Palace and the regions in the south of the Yangtze River, this design project is connected by the storyline of Emperor Qianlong’s Eastern Inspection Tour. Backed by the classical oriental art, this only restaurant in Shenyang Imperial Palace is conferred with immense cultural content and characteristics. Red, yellow and green as the dominant colors of the interior space are coherent with the architectural color scheme of Shenyang Imperial Palace. More specifically, the yellow tile roofing, green edge finishing and Chinese red mirror the oriental aesthetic art. Due to the site-specific limits, certain elements such as Matou Wall (“horse head wall”) and wooden grilles are handily used in only 4m wide space, which create partitioned but associated zones. Dining areas are separated to meet functional needs, make the space well-ventilated and further create a spacious and comfortable dining space. In addition, the interior murals, based on the paintings of famous calligraphers and painters of the Qing Dynasty collected in Shenyang Imperial Palace, reconcile with the entire furnishing style after subsequent color matching. The design elements of the custom-made tables and chairs are derived from the collections with historical implications in Shenyang Imperial Palace, and the cultural ancient and modern connections are reproduced in specific scenes through modern design technique, which in turn brings the appeal of China as an ancient oriental country under the spotlight.
