Yixing Yada Theatre

The Yixing Yada Theatre is located by Yangxian Lake in Yixing City, which is a cultural landmark and a performance space for the town. The open circle space surrounds the central courtyard, creating a close interaction between architecture and nature.The lighting design adopts the principle of integrated architectural, interior and landscape lighting to strengthen the continuity of the enclosed form space. Also，the lighting design presents a night light environment that in harmony with nature. The DMX512 control protocol is used to achieve multi-scene response requirements.

The greatest challenge for this project was to illuminate and avoid light spots on the cyan ceramic panels and to hide the luminaires as much as possible. Mockup was introduced during the design to verify a better lighting solution. The design was combined with the landscape design, combining the positions of the tree planting with the luminaire to achieve a concealed installation. The building façade lighting uses CRI90, 4000K colour temperature floodlights fixed on top of the plant trunks to achieve the effect of gradual wallwash of the ceramic panels.

The interior design of the theatre is inspired by bamboo. The lighting design emphasises materials and textures while ensuring functional lighting. The colour temperature of the light is 3000K, in keeping with the warm and soft visual feeling of bamboo. Since the front room and the viewing room are the main spaces, the lighting strategy is treated differently. The ceiling material in the vestibule is a prefabricated metal piece in the shape of bamboo. The lighting design uses 3W custom-made downlights, which are randomly and uniformly arranged and installed in the openings formed in ceiling. The light illuminates both the interior of the elements and the space, creating a visual effect of starlight.The walls of the auditorium are made of bamboo wood. The colour of bamboo is used as the main tone and the ceiling is a dark woven metal panel. 3W small size highly reflective luminaires are uniformly arranged along the ceiling texture, weakening the volume of the metal panel while deliberately creating a starburst effect.
