Elegance in the Air

The client raises twin children. Busy and intense life is such that they particularly miss the time of traveling and being on vacation when they can enjoy a peaceful and quiet environment. Therefore, the design team arranged the layout complying with the features of the site, and placed elements similar to boutique hotels into each area, creating an interior environment where the children can grow up safely while the couple could get to enjoy an elegant life.

“Snuggling up beside the fireplace with coffee and books in hand; sitting around the kitchen island with a few friends, bathing in the sun; revealing its own beauty and uniqueness when a glimmer of light beaming from the wall lamp…” Those are lives that the client expected, which also became the theme of the entire design.

In order to keep the feature that the site gets enough natural light from several windows while allowing the couple to take the toddlers in hand, the design team implemented the fully-open technique in public spaces. With different facades and movable furniture moving around and settling down among all the areas in various combinations, building up invisible borders and dividing the open space into different regions.

The core concept is based on the client’s desire of living in a boutique-hotel-like environment. Some hotel elements are transformed and integrated into every functional area following the existing conditions, creating elegant scenes in daily life.

At the entrance, a separated hallway is formed by a double-sided cabinet and tawny glass. Public spaces, such as a living room, a study, and a kitchen are located on the left; the design team makes the TV cabinet, which also serves as a fireplace, the main focus; since there is a large window in the kitchen area, it is transformed as a “sunlight kitchen”. At the right of the hallway lie several private regions; on that path, an artistic atmosphere is cultivated by a built-in cabinet with irregular cutting lines and painting hanging track.
