DONGJI STONE HOUSE RESORT, ZHEJIANG, CHINA

Dongji Stone House Resort is located in a small and beautiful island on the east China Sea where it is the best spot to appreciate the earliest sunrise in China. This project is a renovation project that reconstructed the traditional abandoned stone house village and the surrounding landscape. The first phase of the project includes 4 public areas (reception area, restaurant, coffee bar area, and conference room) alongside 10 guest rooms. We designed four interior styles to meet different expectations of different-age customers: Mediterranean style, Wabi-sabi style, Minimalist style and Girly style.



In order to adapt the old stone house village with the needs of a modern resort, the core theme of the architectural renovation has been "Renaissance" – That is to retain the essence of the original building as much as possible alongside making the necessary modifications. To do this, modern resort facilities are added, such as swimming pools and outdoor dining places (there is a round outdoor restaurant which is planned on the rock seashore). However, we did not do much landscape design as the original and natural landscape is rather amazing.



The Facade and Interior design adopt natural yet modern materials such as wood and stucco to smooth the transition from traditional architectural forms to modern holiday spaces. The aesthetic characteristics of contemporary design are reflected through the sharp contrast between the rough texture of stone and the delicate texture of materials such as micro-cement and terrazzo. Also, through the combination of colors, materials and soft furnishings, the atmosphere of different areas and styles is completed.



Unfortunately, this project is halted due to the pandemic in China last year. Hopefully the construction will start this year.
