The Big Small House

This project started in March 2022 and was completed in May 2022 in Taipei City, Taiwan. The owners are a young couple. They want every area in the home can be divided clearly and the functions of daily living can be improved. The designer combines the freshness of the Nordic style and the simplicity of the Wabi-Sabi style. The dull blue color brings the calmness and spaciousness of the ocean into the house; the pinky purple presents the sweetness and elegance of love.
To divide the public and private spaces in the home and to improve the living functionality, the designer creates a duplex design. Compared to big houses, there’re more creative storage ideas shown in small houses.
The 427 square-foot ground floor contains a living room and a dining room, the hospitable owners can chat with friends and exercise here; additionally, the master bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom are contained on the ground floor. The built-in storage cabinet is carefully arranged in the entryway, dining room, and kitchen. With the smart lighting system, the owners can transform the mood of the house by switching the lighting mode. Besides, the owners can have a drink and relax on the balcony. In the bathroom, the bathtub is molded into one body, so it has great waterproof performance, and the perfect size allows the owner can use it together. Under the stairs to the second floor, the spaces are arranged as storage areas. The cabinet depth is extended to give more storage space and multifunctional usage. On the second floor, there are a study and a room to display collections and bicycles.
According to the standard of Green Design (GD), the designer put emphasis on low-formaldehyde quality and natural ventilation, creating a delicate and healthy small living house.
