Like Home

This is a proposal for renovating the storefront on the first level that was previously used as a commercial space, with the design area covering about 36 square meters.

In view of the client’s description of their brand and appointment-based operations, key design thinking focused on how to optimize an open view with richly layered shapes and colors, functionality, level of detail of store windows from the outside-in, and a sense of home-like comfort within a limited space and budget.

Firstly, the two sides of the entrance outside the front edge will be installed with grilles for ventilation and large clear glass, a specially designed blue feature wall and cat playground. Secondly, the area will be smartly divided up using beautiful curved lines to create functional zones and focus the eye on the design theme, such as the feature wall with a curved side behind the sofa, finished with special paint and partially made of wood, matched appropriately with soft plush toys, lamps, plants and lit wall-mounted display cabinets to create a cohesive core zone. The vocabulary of curved elements is extended to other side of the space, which will include a counter and administrative area with a strong design sensibility. Further, the wall will be decorated with two circular hanging plants and three small circular cat obstacles to play into the overall design theme while retaining functionality and providing lively interest.



Materials were chosen based on factors of health, environment and ease of cleaning. The indoor space will feature large areas of warm grey, brown-beige and wooden textures to create a natural, warm and quiet atmosphere. PVC floors will feature delicate chevron patterns, matched with strong turquoise as a finishing touch of contrast, coupled with the lively silhouettes of cats playing within the space, allowing the space to naturally exude its therapeutic charms.
