Residual and non-industrial, INCAFE · SCHEME has restored the ancient ways in soft fashion. It looks outmoded and yet not messy, tattered but not filthy. However, not all bare pipelines and worn-out walls could be labeled as the industrial style. In this case, the cafe adopts gray as the overall tone and creates a pure spatial atmosphere with simple forms and materials, generating tension in the space. The changing textures of the pillars and ceiling have conveyed in a witty way the design concept of restoring the retro aesthetics in a fashionable approach.

The architecture is time-honored. The original structure, materials and construction are simple and even rough. The external wall is leaking seriously, and the ash layer is prone to peel off. The cafe is located in an European style street. Under such a design featuring intersection of the internal and external space, it is truly hard to express a fashionable design language. The designer gives priority to the special difficulties in the design. Backed by the crafts of shoveling, planing and solidification, he manages to keep the original features of the old building space, reduce secondary pollution of the city with the decoration garbage, and effectively control the construction costs. The undecorated concrete walls and pipelines on the ceiling are normally what people want to shelter. But our open-minded designer has reinterpreted the usual objects. Having been endowed with unique positions, the seemingly irregular lines on the walls have reversed our definition of the existing value of materials.

The designer has changed the mechanically applied style of coffee houses. Clear glass is adopted to separate the functional zones. The transparent space is divided into areas for simple kitchen, coffee making, music, chat and smoking. The coffee making area is laid with simple stainless steel materials of concise design. With redundant soft accessories cleared, it features stainless steel tables, chairs and kitchen items. It is unified in the overall style impressing customers as a fashionable coffee house of vintage looks.
