This project was inspired by a poem of Du Fu, showing an early spring picture of birds’ twitter and the fragrance of flowers. We combined traditional Chinese aesthetics with American classical elements to generate a beautiful Chinese visual banquet with unique characteristics. The major public area is spacious and breezier because of its classical symmetrical structure and the appropriate proportion it was allocated. The high doorless doorway frame yields a sense of power similar to the honor and glamour of the heroic predecessors. In line with the luxury and grace of European style, we focused on the lines and details. American classical style is about being casual and free, while the Chinese style is about subtlety and delicacy. Therefore, the project adopted the typical American “earthy tone”, which was then matched with with light gray, cream, and brown. Meanwhile, the use of traditional Chinese colors added uniqueness to the space. Metallic colors were embellished to uplift the holistic quality. The wooden colors commonly used in modern ornament here balanced the heaviness in design and brought the warmth of life into it.
