Glimpses of Embers

The space tells the narrative of daily life through the circulation of moments full of activity. With serene earth tones and smooth textures, the surfaces of the walls and ceilings melt together at the foundation. Emotional intensity ignites memories like thick magma, and the ignition disperses the powerful moments into every corner of the space as glimpses of embers float in the air, creating a clear illustration of the past, present, and future that captures the emotionality of life’s moments.



The client’s warm affection towards their family inspired the design concept of this project. Expressing the metaphor of a film production, the setting and theme provides a sentimental atmosphere upon entrance with montages that capture each precious moment. The relationship between the narration, spatial structure, color and light, furniture, and other details constructs an chronological timeline of memories that allows residents to escape the bounds of time and experience the limitless creativity of nostalgia.



Opening the door, the linear corridor starts the prologue surrounded by gray mirrors and floating cabinets. Stepping further inside brings the guest room, dining room, and open kitchen into vision. The continuity of the two-way, horizontal, floor-to-ceiling windows creates the perception of brightness. Continuing the metaphor of the narrative of the warm embers, the fireplace located on the lower left of the TV penetrates the gray and rustic wall with a ray of light.



Two overlapping, arc-shaped ceiling boards create the impression of continuity and independence of the living room by hiding the girders, creating a visual effect that separates it from the entrance and the corridor. The arc shape is also used in multiple other areas, such as the modeling column between the guest room and the dining room, the rounded corners of the bedroom and bathroom, and the arc-shaped lamps and seats. These soft, smooth curves connect the entire space together. The flow of the moving lines continues from the public into the private areas of the home, producing a sense of eternity.
