Situated within New Taipei City, Taiwan, this 85 sqm apartment has been thoughtfully designed to provide a cozy haven for a newlywed couple, tailored to accommodate their upcoming life journey. Comprising 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 working studio, as well as encompassing areas for living, dining, and culinary pursuits, this space harmonizes functionality with comfort.
The project is aptly named the "Green Nest," with its nomenclature holding a dual significance. "Green" transcends the mere chromatic palette, symbolizing not only a hue but also a fresh commencement for the occupants. "Nest" embodies a profound aspiration: transforming this dwelling into more than a residence, but rather a haven of solace; furthermore, a welcoming sanctuary for the forthcoming addition to the family.
Within this venture, the paramount challenge lay in the precise alteration of the constrictive divisions imposed by girders and beams in the existing structure. By envisioning the space as a unified whole, a dynamic interplay of curves was harnessed to uplift and guide the gaze through the new architectural form, thereby engendering a harmonious spatial continuum. The seamless integration of storage solutions and pelmets contributed to an environment that exudes minimalist elegance while remaining eminently functional.
In terms of materials, terrazzo was artfully employed as the flooring medium. Its purpose extended beyond aesthetic, ingeniously blending the foyer, kitchen, and dining areas into a cohesive whole, simultaneously demarcating the living quarters. The incorporation of reeded glass in the working area achieved a delicate balance between transparency and privacy. This was complemented by the strategic use of wood and mineral paint, adding layers of dimension and character to the space.
By adroitly fulfilling functional needs and adeptly remedying the shortcomings of the initial conditions, style and beauty organically emerged, seamlessly merging form and function into a harmonious synthesis.
