The inspiration for this project stems from the belief that there exists an intrinsic connection between people and objects, as stated by the French sociologist Jean Baudrillard: "The close internal bond between humans and objects gives the objects a density, an emotional value, which is the 'sense of presence' of the objects." Objects and furniture that carry the memories and stories of the residents not only reflect the emotional relationships within a home but also express the enduring existence of material objects.
Considering the homeowners' collection of various treasured art pieces and objects, the designer draws upon Jean Baudrillard's idea that "space is the true freedom of objects," aiming to overturn the rapid and disposable relationship between people and objects. Thus, through the simplification of design techniques and creating a blank canvas, the space becomes a formless and organic entity that allows the objects to be freely displayed and arranged according to the residents' whims and ideas. This approach nurtures a sense of companionship value and permanence for the items within the space.
This project involves a retired Taiwanese couple who have gained a deep cultural understanding and refined artistic taste through their world travels. Each time they move to a new living space, they hope to recreate and utilize the furniture, art pieces, and objects that are filled with emotional memories and worth revisiting.
The designer incorporates the experiences and observations of the homeowners during their travels into the design, creating a space that offers flexibility and allows for the display of eclectic art pieces in a harmonious manner. Following the evolution of various aesthetic styles, the space intertwines elements of classical, rustic, modern minimalist, and industrial styles, reflecting the homeowners' life journey and forming a unique and personal style genre. For lighting, cabinets, and hardware, materials with a metallic texture are carefully selected, adding visual highlights to the simple and elegant space while cleverly echoing the homeowners' involvement in the craft trade industry.
