The objective of this particular project is to merge conventional and modern concepts, all while keeping cultural values intact and supporting urban growth. Taking a regional approach, the design takes into account the entirety of the site. The integration with Shengli Star Village will give rise to a fresh shopping district and public area, effectively altering the urban landscape of the region. The design highlights the importance of preserving traditional cultural values, while also catering to the needs of modern urban development. The end result is a thriving and unique urban environment that is sure to captivate and inspire.
The Pingtung Japanese Colonial Era Officer Dormitory Complex was established in 1920 when Taiwan's first official airport, the Pingtung Airport, was built. To meet the airport's operational needs, several Japanese dormitories were constructed in the Pingtung City area starting in 1927. Currently, the Pingtung County Government has listed six historical Japanese dormitories in the area, including Chongren New Village Kongshiang District, Pingtung's Army Dormitory Complex, and so forth. These two areas have preserved the characteristics of Japanese brick and wooden government houses from the Showa period and have maintained the spatial texture of the settlement, providing a complete picture of Pingtung City's history under Japanese colonization.
Our objective is to develop the "Pingtung City Japanese Dormitory Heritage Park" by carefully planning the landscape, implementing maintenance phases, and incorporating art installations. The design is centered around the concept of "time", as we aim to capture the historical essence of the area and incorporate it into the park. We plan to reuse old components to create a pedestrian-friendly environment with walkways, seating, and artistic landscapes that blend seamlessly with the surrounding streetscape. By combining cultural assets with art, we hope to reconnect humanity with nature, and history with the city, and create a multifunctional public space that is both enjoyable and beneficial. Our ultimate goal is to create a place where history, humanity, and art can thrive together and the city can proudly showcase its past while offering modern-day amenities.
