Poly Swallow Mansion Display Area

This project is located in Yanzi Block, Qixia District in Nanjing City. "Yanzi" means "Swallow" in Chinese. It is named after a famous landmark in Nanjing with several rocks standing upright on the Yangtze River. Just like the shape of a swallow spreading its wings and ready to fly. Many ancient poets left their lines in front of this spectacular landmark. The architecture design is inspired by Tangyin`s poem "swallows return to apricot blossoms, the red bridge casting shadow on green pond" from Ming dynasty. In ancient China, the Emperor usually hosted a grand banquet for students who succeed in imperial examination in Apricot Blossoms. As there are several famous primary & middle schools surrounding the site, so "Swallow" and "Apricot" become the storyline of the whole architectural scenes design as these two words are typical cultural symbolism of imperial examination in Chinese culture.

The architectural form takes the posture of a swallow spreading its wings and flying, with distinct eaves and vigorous momentum expanding to both sides. It integrates the shape of a flying swallow into the architectural lines, presenting visitors a beautiful picture of a swallow spreading its wings.

The architecture skin idea is inspired by Swallow’s colorful feather. We use a special painted skin called “The chameleon paint”. Due to its uniform and controllable silica-based material and the thickness of the coated metal oxide, it can exhibit different interference color effects at various viewing angles. We apply this technology to the eaves of buildings, which can present different visual experiences in various lighting conditions.

Stepping out from community lobby, people can enter sunken yard & community club from a wing shaped staircase. The sunken yard landscape ideas are also responded to the theme of Swallow wing lines and Apricot. Even the decoration detail in top of lift is inspired by swallowtail lines. The sunken space is surrounded by a corridor around the center of courtyard, people can actually feel the symbolization of vitality and good fortune from the elegant themed architecture & landscape designs.
