The Rebuilding Project of Toyama Bank-Japan Local Bank’s Head Office
The project concept is tradition and innovation
Subject focus:
The essence of banking does not lie in the activation of regional economy, rather, it is to make people’s lives better. On the other hand, with the rapid development of digital banking and the changes in life styles, the number of people going to physical offices for banking services is progressively decreasing.
With that in mind, considering the purpose of having physical offices in the future, one is to use the interior design to depict the bank as a symbolic figure in the neighborhood; the other one is to directly convey the declaration of the bank as a corporation to its neighborhood and customers, so as to allow people to rediscover the bank.
The north side of the building acts as a window of the bank, using one of its brand colors to surround the north with lighting effects, it helps to construct a brand new, symbolic space that has yet been seen in any bank building so far, thus creating a new icon in the neighborhood. Furthermore, the south side of the building effectively utilizes local recycled stone materials and the red bricks from the exterior of old bank building, to create a new landmark that inherits traditions and preserves memories, while developing innovations.
