200 Years, 200 Stories

"200 Years, 200 Stories," is an assemblage of captivating stories from Virginians of all stripes — heroes and villains, the famous and infamous, the powerful and the powerless — reflecting the sweep of Virginians’ experiences. The design includes a large-scale projection experience that elevates traditional artifact displays for a design that is as holistic as the exhibit content. The exhibit also includes a variety of interactives.



The projection experience, “From a Singular Point,” by Jeff Dobrow, is a stunning dynamic element that bookends the exhibit on two opposite walls. Featuring vibrant artistic stylings and kaleidoscopic animation, the ambient projection was used as an opportunity to move visitors in a novel way. The artwork represents a landscape of information, iconography, the growth of accessibility, and organized chaos evolving slowly over time.



A listening station brings the voices of notable Virginians to life, biography stations let visitors explore the lives of Virginian’s who didn’t leave behind physical artifacts, and “discovery drawers” let visitors uncover hidden stories. Marrying the modern and the classic, the tactile and the intangible, this exhibit invites visitors to engage with Virginia’s voices as no one has in 200 years.
