The project site is located in Chengdu's Jinjiang District, in close proximity to historical landmarks such as Niuwang Temple and Dianjiangtai. The East Street area, where it is situated, was historically Chengdu's bustling commercial hub, giving rise to modern commercial centers like Taikoo Li and Chunxi Road. And the design target is to be another mixed-use commercial complex in the future. In response to the dual urban demands of preserving history and embracing modern development, the design introduces the concept of "urban fabric integration and neighbourhood symbiosis" for the revitalization of the old city. On one hand, it harmonizes diverse architectural scales to mend the urban fabric, fostering a dialogue between the old and new, and facilitating the coexistence of new and old neighborhoods. On the other hand, it integrates traditional commercial space models with modern commercial formats. This entails incorporating traditional spatial experiences into new consumption scenarios, creating a mixed-use environment and a diverse range of businesses in the city, ultimately forming a new type of commercial complex. The design first establishes a main street running from east to west within the site, which serves as the inner interface open to the city. Secondly, in the east and west directions facing the neighborhood, corner plazas are created, linked by smaller-scale streets and alleys. These smaller streets and alleys are distributed on both sides of the main street, resulting in low-density blocks that maintain the traditional street and alley scale. The ultra-high-rise towers located at both ends of the site are designed to "float" above the entire block, ensuring the integrity of the street-level urban fabric. The cantilevered lower-level spaces create a visual corridor between the east and west roads, establishing a dialogue and reducing the sense of pressure at the urban interface. The sophisticated and fashionable ultra-high-rise towers showcase the city's ambitious development, while maximizing the release of the ground level space serves as an effective compensation for urban public space.
