This is a duplex villa with three above-ground floors and two below-ground floors, with an original built area of less than 450 square meters. Although it has a villa structure, the interior functional zoning did not fully meet the owner's actual needs. According to the owner's requirements and the space's inherent flexibility, our team conducted a comprehensive analysis and divided the space into two areas: the basement and the first floor for active use, and the second and third floors for quiet use. We utilized some double-height spaces to incorporate all the balconies and the original owner's parking space into the interior, which barely met the owner's practical demands.
Once the functional zones were mostly meeting the owner's requirements, what should we do next? This was a challenging and interesting phase. Since we created some double-height spaces, the originally open and disordered space became relatively enclosed. Through clever arrangement, we created an interaction between the second and first floors by providing an opening at the entrance to the second-floor elder's room, enriching the vertical spatial hierarchy and emotional atmosphere. The alignment of the living room, dining room, and western kitchen on the first floor, as well as the alignment of the master bedroom and the walk-in closet, all added a sense of storytelling to the space.
These are the logic behind creating both vertical and horizontal spaces. The main entrance on the basement and first floor ensured that functional requirements and the sense of returning home were satisfied.
The remaining task was to apply appropriate materials to their respective spaces, creating a cohesive sense of contemporary luxury in the home. Stepping through the front door, all defenses drop, and you immerse yourself completely in the embrace of your home, enjoying its warmth.
