The dynamic of commercial street life was famous in Taichung, Taiwan, the street facade was the attraction for pedestrians; during the80's the overflow and exaggeration of shop signs replaced architectural aesthetics; and the outcome was the chaotic, orderless street today. The challenge for the local street shop is to compete with the mall founded by a huge financial group and the convenience of internet shopping.

The renovation of Yuan watch shop is to enhance the experience of brand identity, instead of a shop sign, but to integrate the street facade and interior into one identity and experience. Architecture facades, shop signs, and pedestrian arcades are the introduction of interior merchandise, so cultivating the continuity of ambiance is needed for creating a sense of place.



The carve-out marble entrance and window of the store front create a solid thickness; the carve-out open perspective creates an angular perspective for the pedestrain that is easily glanced through into the interior. The marble and titanium metal can reflect the interior exhibition, where a variety of colors inflow out to the outdoor. The walk-through of the shop creates a sense of ritual; the curves of marble create an invited sensation; and there is a touch of high-quality stone.



In the new design plan, the spaces are separated by layers of wall or curtain, like a waterfall that divides the hidden cave. As the shop differentiates between an open commercial exhibition and a more private space, the layers of curtain both divide and attract the shop. When events and conferences are held, they both create a background and boundaries of space.

Since the opening of the store, it has held several events, even for different brands, which easily transform the shop into a spectacle, casino, or musical performance. The easily transformed space's potential as a street shop is to bring a unique experience for the client.
