NUOMI’s HOME

This project is the working and living space of an illustrator. The designer’s approach is based on the concept of “focusing on the core.” By adjusting the layout and flow and opening up the public areas, a golden triangle, which comprises the frequently used open kitchen, dining room and workspace, is formed to create an environment that strikes a balance between work and life. As the boundaries of the space are softened, the beautiful mountain landscape is allowed to flow indoors, turning the interior space into a canvas that’s filled with limitless possibilities and imaginations, and forming more connections between daily life and nature.



The original layout with three bedrooms restricts how natural scenery flows in. Additionally, since the homeowner works from home, having a larger workspace is very important. Therefore, one of the rooms is opened up to make way for an entirely open public space, with the working area, dining room and kitchen positioned as the core. Meanwhile, the living room is moved to a corner, which is more logical considering the space utilization. The kitchen also undergoes a reconfiguration in terms of appliance placement, orientation, and layout, so that the beautiful view can be enjoyed when the homeowner is cooking. Lastly, appliance cabinets are added to tackle the issue of insufficient storage in the original kitchen.



By opening up the partitions in the public areas, the design is able to maximize the distribution of natural light. The space is minimally decorated and utilizes natural materials such as wood, terrazzo, and mineral coatings, and movable furniture replaces fixed woodwork. For example, the iconic Vitsoe 606 Universal Shelving System is installed in the study, putting the design’s eco-friendly and nature-inspired philosophy into practice.
