Misplaced Geometry: Imitation of Nature

The client had a plan for his retirement - to build a vacation house to be close to nature and to entertain his friends and family. The project is located at the junction of Yangmingshan and Jinshan. Taking advantage of the site, the design team connected the two buildings on unequal foundations with a ramp. To create a harmonious look, the design team took an irregular arrangement of slanting shafts at the corridor, and a visualization of lines parallel to the slope. To fulfill the client's desire for nature, in addition to the surrounding greenery, the exterior of the house is imprinted with vegetation elements to blend in perfectly with the landscape. The building is painted in light gray, with white paint on the exterior walls intertwined to simulate tree branches. Some of the walls are covered with hexagonal tiles in different shades, echoing the shadows of the surrounding trees. The yellow floor lamps reflect the silhouettes of the trees on the walls, changing their projections as the wind blows. The design team has done the makeup and decoration for the five senses of the building. Undaunted by the challenges and constraints, they believe that architectural design is like making a movie, where expectations are realized through meticulous editing.
