Costa-Suzhou Old Xietang Street Store

The Xietang Old Street, located in the Suzhou Industrial Park, is a cultural tourism destination that has acquired a fashionable and leisurely character, rich in Chinese Watertown's mood. The Costa Coffee store, situated within the old street, skilfully integrates coffee culture into the ancient Suzhou-style architecture, aiming to create a space where Chinese and Western cultures intergrow.

To maintain the integrity of the ancient architecture without altering or destroying it, the design team replaced the traditional storefront signboard with a plaque. The team used local elements to create the plaque frame, brand-specified materials to create the plaque backing, and the brand logo as the content while incorporating a prominent circular signboard. This approach gave the shop a look that is both distinctive to the brand and complementary to the building.

Upon entering the store, customers experience the perfect interplay of coffee culture and Suzhou charm. Due to limited space on the ground floor, the design team combined the classic Chinese furniture arhat beds with booths to form an innovative semi-enclosed booth with sofas, creating an enjoyable seating area. To maximize the spaciousness of the seating area on the ground floor, the design team combined part of the operation room and the staircase into one by overlapping and combining the spaces. Classical aesthetics were added through the tall wood carving parquet folding screen. Furthermore, the first-floor seating area is separated by carved wooden folding screens, creating several private spaces where customers can savour their coffee and enjoy conversations with friends and family in a comfortable environment.
