In Macau, where space is a luxury, our design project transformed a former studio in a traditional building into a cozy family home. Originally consisting of one bedroom and one living room, the layout didn't suit the new owner, a family of three. They opted to convert it into a two-bedroom and one-living-room layout, seeking a Bohemian style for a unique, comfortable, and natural atmosphere. Given budget constraints, we retained the existing kitchen and focused on meeting the family's spatial needs while seamlessly integrating the Bohemian style.
For the design, we used walnut and grey as the main colors, complemented by touches of green and various patterns. Unique cabinet designs combined different saturations of wood to enrich the cabinets' depth.
A key design feature was the glass greenery display space behind the television backdrop wall, which included double-sided glass swing doors serving as display doors for daily use and as a partition between the kitchen and living room.
The interaction between the living room and bedrooms began with the corridor, featuring storage cabinets on the left and display areas on the right. We utilized colorful wood combinations and wooden grilles as dividers, with adjustable shelves above accommodating plant growth.
At the end of the hallway, the owners requested a leisurely coffee area, distinguished by wood patterns and floral tiles to evoke a retro ambiance. Utilizing the floor, we created an independent workspace while green paint on the walls extended the visual continuity from the coffee area.
