The new S.T. Dupont store marks an inspiring new direction for the heritage brand. Sybarite’s design reimagines the store as a modern vision that paves the way for the future of the brand. The concept originates from the Maison’s iconic first lighter of 1941, reimagined in continuum to the present day in a range of luxury materials, capturing the brand’s exclusive diamond pattern, graphic linearity, and lacquering technique.
The flagship has been meticulously designed, the diamond pattern serves as the driving influence in design codes and the spatial configuration of the store. Tonal gradient colourways derived from their unique dual-flame system range from electric blue to navy and soft peach to glowing yellow.
The façade features the foundations of the S.T. Dupont brand, with pillars clad in reeded stainless steel – a nod to the levers of the lighter itself. High gloss blue lacquered signage recalls their applied mastery of the material, and high gloss acrylic flag signage studded with metallic diamond tiles crafted in ceramic anchors the corners.
The front window areas are screened off from the rest of the store with the use of glass V-shaped screens of blue ombre effect, through which the store opens up to reveal a centralised diamond-shaped chandelier comprised of glass fibre rods, in perfect symmetry with the entrance.
Informed by the diamond motif, the reeded metal coffered ceiling and book-matched timber floor perfectly mirror each other in their 45-degree gridded form. The timber floor is a natural yet modern take reminiscent of French royal palaces of the past, with accents of brushed brass inlays which will capture the patination of time.
An upscale mix of materials and their applications have been chosen for their subtle colour saturation, luxurious sumptuousness, dextrous tactility, and inherent and engraved patterning.
The selected materials connect with a sense of balance to the goods on display, commencing with hard finishes at the front of the store where the leather goods are displayed progressing to soft finishes, juxtaposing with hard goods, and finally arriving in a private ‘haute couture’ niche.
