The Yunhai Forest Service Station in Shenzhen is situated in the heart of the Sanzhoutian Forest Park. Serving as an iconic sight in the mountain park area. The design brief emphasized utility and identity, to establish a popular gathering place for locals that would help to grow Banshan Park. The property is in a unique location, overlooking the fast-developing city of Shenzhen at an elevation of 380 meters on Maluan Mountain, with views of the sea and mountains and surrounded by lovely woods. The service station serves as a vital facility in the park, providing bathrooms, a cafe, and other amenities. The architectural design emphasizes spatial platforming and route three-dimensionality, to create as many picturesque perspectives as possible given the restricted capacity. The collapse of the existing three-story dangerous structure on the site created a foundation hole. The toilet functions were previously situated in this space, with a distinct walkway, to ensure speedy access. Reception rooms, conference rooms, open spaces, a cafe, and a bookshop were then positioned in half-level increments to create a Z-shaped three-dimensional route that traversed the volumes. A progressively climbing ramp provides access, resulting in multi-level folding viewing platforms and large-span grey areas. The materials used were lightweight and translucent contemporary materials, which ensured transparency for the panoramic vistas. The external shape is streamlined, resulting in a curving space that adds to the visual tension of the structure in the mountain-sea landscape. The interior design elevates the internal space experience to a level of unearthly dimensions. It predominantly employs curved language and flowing blocks, maintains a coherent and sturdy texture while emphasizing the integrity of interior and outdoor spaces generates significant spatial tension, and enhances the exciting sensory experience.
