The “Path to Serene Light - Chih-nan Temple Bamboo and Cypress Path” lighting renovation project is a groundbreaking initiative that merges environmental protection with cultural heritage preservation. The project aims to enhance the nighttime environment of this ancient path through sustainable lighting design, emphasizing the path’s unique natural and historical features.

With a deep understanding of the area’s ecological and lighting conditions, the project aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by implementing localized environmental protection and cultural education efforts. Key strategies include using low-color temperature LED light sources and low-scale, glare-avoiding functional lighting to minimize ecological disturbances. Additionally, time-control technology turns off non-essential lighting after 9 PM, protecting the natural rhythms of the ecosystem and supporting biodiversity (Goal 15) and energy conservation (Goal 7).

The lighting design respects the natural and historical elements of the Bamboo and Cypress Path. LED fixtures illuminate 39 stone lanterns from the Japanese colonial period, enhancing the path’s elegance and dignity at night. Earth-toned, organically shaped lamp poles replace standard streetlights, reducing light spill and integrating harmoniously with the environment.

A notable feature is the linear staircase lighting along the path, paired with structures shaped like Chih-nan Temple’s gourds. The DMX lighting control system adjusts ambient lighting effects according to the seasons, transforming the path into a vivid timeline that reflects the passage of time.

In the evening, whether travelers ascend from the mountain base or descend via the Maokong Gondola, they experience a distinct nighttime atmosphere. The lighting provides clear guidance and a welcoming environment, connecting stone lanterns and distinctive waypoints along the path.

The project not only enhances the pathway’s nighttime environment but also fosters respect for the local culture and environment. It exemplifies a commitment to sustainable development, showcasing how innovative design can harmonize environmental protection, cultural heritage, and community quality of life.
