The Xinglong Lake Wetland Park in Chengdu Tianfu New District is one of the key projects of ecological protection in the Yangtze River Basin. Based on the nature solution principle of “Park City”, it creates an important ecological patch for bird migration in Western Sichuan and “returns” the nature to people in a high-density city. It provides "Tianfu wisdom" and a series of replicable solutions for green urban development, not only locally but global influentially.
From the perspective of the basin ecosystem as a whole, this project establishes a wider-scale urban spongy body, which is coupled with all landscape factors of "hill, forest, lake, grass and city" to form a full chain design from "elements - structure - function - process".
A more resilient green infrastructure system is built by inheriting the traditional Chinese water control wisdom, according to the calculation of water catchment area and hydrodynamic model, relying on the original underwater landform to form a Y-shaped diversion channel, to achieve rapid sand control and smooth flow under extreme rainstorm environment, and effectively realize the benign exchange of river and lake water bodies. "
To construct a more three-dimensional and multi-dimensional ecological space, innovative ecological engineering method is used to form a winding and changeable ecological buffer zone along the lakeshore through the collaborative design of bush, grass island and beach island. 11 water depth gradients were modeled to create a complex habitat of biodiversity through submerged plant, fish, benthonic animal and microbial communities.
After the completion of the project, a large number of unicorn enterprises has been attracted by the natural-like environment, and settle down in the lakeside area with sufficient service facilities. This demonstrates the success of the "park+" development idea and is becoming an important display window for the ecological value transformation of "park city".
