Situated in the heart of Suzhou's traditional garden culture, this project is heavily inspired from the aesthetics of traditional Suzhou gardens, particularly the Canglang Pavilion. The design strives to blend traditional elements with modern techniques, creating a garden space that reconciles the charm of tradition with the needs of contemporary living. In the north garden area, the enclosure wall is crafted from bamboo materials. The concept “bamboo as wall” not only symbolizes the leisure atmosphere of the city center, but also carries on the cultural essence of Suzhou gardens. With water elements interspersed, the "Canglang Water" acts as the core traffic route that connects the east and west gardens. This design creates a delightful experience of strolling along the waterfront, while appreciating the artistry of the stones and woods. At the main entrance, a fascinating landscape called "Shuiyun Shixia" comes to the first sight. Light and shadow effects, along with water inverted image, add to spatial depth and visual interest. The central garden renders the focal space of the project, and the selected pomegranate trees symbolize prosperity and happiness, conveying the desire for a better life. The mirrored water feature on the ground level expands the perceived space, reflecting the sky and surrounding greenery, and adding a sense of visual spaciousness. The south courtyard is designed as an outdoor negotiation area that measures the scale and layout of classical gardens. The strategic placement of bamboo and the layered spatial arrangement make a serene and tranquil atmosphere. The choice of materials and attention to craftsmanship in every aspect of the project shows a deep respect and modern interpretation of traditional Suzhou techniques. For instance, the use of emerald colored stone combined with glazed glass, as well as the incorporation of laser technology for intricate carvings, all pay a tribute to the exquisite craftsmanship of Suzhou embroidery. The combination of these elements weaves a detailed and intricate depiction of the present-day Jiangnan gardens, and renders the traditional essence of Suzhou gardens alongside the beauty of modern human settlement.
