In the pure warmth of a spring day or the pristine beauty of newly fallen snow, stepping inside reveals a vast expanse of elegant light gray soothing to the eyes. The soft glow of droplet-shaped pendant lights, reminiscent of condensed ripples, washes away the tiredness, offering solace to the weary. In an era saturated with information, the home should serve as a sanctuary, a warm haven that fosters bonds of affection. Amidst the changing tides of time, it becomes a place to share laughter, to admire the verdant trees outside the window, to gaze upon the rising sun over distant mountains, and to cherish the flickering shadows cast by the sunlight through the wrought iron window grilles. These moments coalesce into cherished memories filled with warmth and joy.
This project, conceived as a private home, embraces the hope of creating profound spatial memories for children. We seamlessly integrated circular elements into the architecture, from the building’s exterior to windows and railings, shaping a distinctive landscape for the home. Leveraging the building’s orientation, we strategically arranged shared areas facing west and private spaces facing east. This layout ensures ample brightness in the afternoon for the former and allows the latter to bask in the morning sunlight. Not only does this layout align with daily routines, but it also reduces the need for artificial lighting by harnessing abundant natural light. Coupled with low-formaldehyde green building materials throughout the house, we aim to provide every family member with a safe and comfortable daily living.
By skillfully retaining the original staggered layout of the old house, we ensure that family members in different areas can still care for each other and maintain emotional connections. The first-floor bathroom was originally under the staircase; we relocated it to the side of the balcony, adding skylights to improve the previously damp and dim environment. Circular windows incorporated into the building’s facade cast changing patterns of light and shadow indoors throughout the day, allowing occupants to experience the subtle transitions of time.
