Novo Land - Jolly Woodland Children Playroom

Hong Kong is a considerable metropolis, but seemingly not a sizeable one. Ironically, it is a challenge to design and create an artistic and spacious venue in this “big” city. Play Concept is facing a bigger challenge as we aim to inject creativity and imagination into our design works. Nevertheless, we strongly believe that every child on earth deserves a natural touch, even living in a concrete jungle. Thus, we infuse fun and natural elements into a playroom called Jolly Woodland.

We are determined to once again “play out of the box” and create an indoor natural world amidst the hustle and bustle. Jolly Woodland is designed based on an aurora town in the northern hemisphere. Through different patterns, colors and lighting that deliver a natural vibe, we aim to literally turn this playroom into a woodland full of joy and laughter, so that children can feel the unique freshness and coziness of a Nordic town.

The set can be generally divided into upper and lower levels, which are designed for two different age groups. This design does not only pragmatically and efficiently cater to the diversified recreational needs of children on each level, but also offers them exclusive areas with higher safety level and sense of belonging. We devote ourselves to making this set an artistic, joyful yet practical playground in which children thrive while having fun, as we always do.

Since we decided to make Jolly Woodland a Nordic world, aurora borealis has been an indispensable element, or even the one and only paintbrush for the whole design. We build the set with mostly reflective or translucent materials in light earth tones. A large amount of tempered glass is used, while the drawings on it are made blank or with thin lines. We also intentionally leave sufficient distance between ropes. Every tiny move plays an equally important role to let the light shines everywhere in the set. It is not for creating a brighter playroom, but for making this Nordic-town-themed natural design more magical with a fascinating combination of light and shadow.
