It is common for young children to be afraid of the dark in the house, which is often related to imagination and a natural reaction to the unknown. This fear is particularly common in the development of children between the ages of 2 and 6. A toy or piece of furniture that they can easily see during the day may look different in the dark, and their imagination can make this uncertainty frightening.

In many places, especially in the home, light switches may be higher than children aged 2-6 years can reach. Given children's fear of the dark, it is very important that they have easy access to the switch so that they can get out of the dark and move around freely.

This construction has two important functions. Firstly, the chain goes down to facilitate access to the switch function so that the child can turn the light on and off. Secondly, the chain allows them to adjust the time the light is on and off. This is important because the child may want to use a timer to switch the light off after they have gone to bed and perhaps fallen asleep. By turning the chain and pulling it back and forth, the child can set the number of minutes the light stays on on the screen with numbers and graphics. In another scenario, the timer can be set to allow the child to move to another room after finishing work in that room without turning off the light. After a short period of time set by the child, the light in the room is switched off. Children often have to walk down the corridor in the dark after finishing their work in the room, which can be stressful. From a playful perspective, this design will also prevent children from having to run in the dark.

In summary, the aim of this design is to provide an accessible on/off switch for children who are afraid of the dark and a timer where they can see the time on the display.
