About The Entry

This Upper East Side apartment underwent a stunning transformation into a serene oasis, blending historical charm with modern comfort to cater to the client's desire for a tranquil sanctuary and a space for family gatherings.

Original 1930s details such as inlaid floors and arched doorways provided a rich backdrop, enhanced by modern elements for a balanced aesthetic of personality, warmth, and calm. Tonal layers of white and cream colors amplified natural daylight, fostering an airy atmosphere essential for relaxation.

In the living room, bold pieces like a vintage slipper chair and a walnut dining table contrasted with a subtly shimmering area rug. Gold leopard print fabric added vibrant intensity, complemented by brass hardware and lighting fixtures that added warmth and sophistication, reflecting the refined tastes typical of the Upper East Side.

The design honored the client's experiences and travels, integrating cherished objects and artwork with contemporary elements. This approach not only highlighted each piece's uniqueness but also maintained an open, inviting ambiance.

Dramatic touches included marble slabs and Murano glass in the kitchen and bathroom, evoking classic Italian design and contributing to an expansive, luxurious feel. Chinoiserie wallpaper adorned the makeup vanity area, while velvet drapery and New Zealand wool rugs in the bedroom ensured a tranquil retreat for rest and relaxation.

Art played a central role in personalizing the space, with standout pieces like Jim Gingrich's canvas in the entryway and Damien Hurst's Spot Painting in the living room adding color, energy, and historical depth. Thoughtful curation extended to every detail, from furnishings to finer touches, ensuring the home not only met but exceeded the client's expectations for daily calm and welcoming hospitality.

In essence, this project harmoniously bridged past and present, creating a space that delights the senses while maintaining a strong sense of comfort and grounding. It stands as a testament to thoughtful design that transforms living spaces and enhances the client's experience of home.
