Mafuyuan Tourist Center

Mafuyuan Tourist Service Center is located at the entrance of Mafuyuan Village, Jiangning District, Nanjing.The project uses the original two residential buildings to transform them into a visitor center with seed display function and functions of village committee office and security. Based on the current location relationship of two residential buildings, the design first connects the existing windows on the second floors of the two buildings through a corridor, forming a functional space connection and naturally creating an indoor platform for viewing.Secondly, planting courtyards and public spaces between buildings to form shared courtyards with villagers, in order to create a comprehensive area of architecture and environment.In addition, the building is based on the traditional form of Ma Fu Yuan residential buildings and is refined and translated to enhance the life memories brought by the original roof, creating a unique and universal meaning with a sense of unfamiliarity. The theme of the building is seeds, mainly as a seed display space. Through the transformation of the internal space, the building strengthens the original part of the structure, forming a dialogue between the upper and lower and the overall coordination of the space. In the transformation, the form with seed as the theme is implanted to transform the original form, and seeds of different colors, sizes and shapes are injected into the special insulating glass form to form an external surface that can be displayed with a characteristic window (wall), and present the special meaning of the form displayed with seeds. The light penetrates through the grain space between the seeds, casting different shadows in the room and enlarging the seed's abstract and silhouetted morphological memory. The landscape of different rural crops planted in the surrounding courtyards, combined with seed-related artifacts such as bamboo plaques, forms a natural process for the seeds from sowing, growth, maturation, use, and final return to the soil.
