RADIANCE Tianyu Gu x MGM

It takes on different forms with tme, place, and space. Artst Tianyu Gu hopes that his artwork is multfaceted, allowing each person to have their own interpretaton in different setngs. The collaboraton was facilitated by the Shanghai West Bund MGM Hotel, and they hoped the artst would present the work in the form of trees within the hotel, which the artsts flawlessly executed.

Artst Tianyu Gu wanders among his travels, naturally observing the language of life, drawing sparks of inspiraton, and reflectng them in his works, nurturing a "radiant" tree. In the winter of 23, this glass tree named "Radiance", accompanied by artst Gu Tianyu, flourished at the W Shanghai- The Bund, reaching up to 3 meters high and cover-ing 70 square meters, illuminatng the 57th-floor lobby with its sparkling brilliance, allowing every traveler to bask in its holiday glow.

Using the infinite expansiveness of glass, the artist explores the relationships between space, time, and people in the present moment. During the 21-day residency at the hotel, the work will be interrupted by travelers and unexpected events, resulting in no final form but rather a conceptual name that interacts with different times, spaces, and people. The artist documents each stage of the process through the act of sculpting on-site. The work is composed of a single piece of glass, but it disrupts different spaces, creating new states each time. This iteration, invited by MGM, reflects Shanghai's local interpretation of Christmas. Glass, as a medium, embodies time and traditional craft techniques, but the artist deconstructs and reorganizes it through sculpture. The work travels to various spaces and times, adopting different forms in response to its context, inviting the public to become a part of the work and reflect on their relationship with themselves, society, and the dimensions of space and time. The piece, like every individual, has a name and carries hope along life's journey. Yet, in the next moment, are you still the same person? Essentially, the self is like a work of art, constantly changing with time, space, and relationships. So, are you still you?
