No. 26 Shijia Hutong, Dongcheng District, Beijing

Design considerations take into account the regional characteristics of Beijing and ingeniously integrate the distinctive elements of Hainan, transforming the courtyard at No. 26 Shijia Hutong into a unique "Traditional Chinese • Beijing-style Courtyard". The owner expects to reconstruct and transform the exterior and spatial structure of the existing building to provide connection services, accommodation, and other functions for business people from Haikou in the urban area of Beijing, thereby achieving the project's three major functions: Cultural Exchange, Business Reception, and Brand Display.

The design integrates the commonalities and individualities of the regional cultures of Beijing and Haikou, extracting the spatial order of traditional quadrangle courtyards in hutong and the architectural features and elements of Haikou's original volcanic villages, old streets with arcades, and traditional courtyards. Taking the traditional gray of the hutong as the main color and using the unique volcanic rock of Haikou as the facade material, it achieves the integration and coordination of the architectural cultures of both places.

The front yard is designed to be a ceremonial one-tier courtyard, reflecting the architectural charm of the "Beijing-style Courtyard." The back yard integrates Hainan's unique coastal culture, embedding the "Island" into the landscape of the back yard, while using traditional volcanic rock and wooden-colored grilles. The courtyard space is connected with the Beijing-style covered walkways, creating an ecological courtyard that is a haven for the soul.
