Chang Bai 228 Neighborhood, formerly known as "Changbai Yicun". As the first batch of "20,000 households" workers' new village after the founding of the State of Shanghai, it is not only the only existing "20,000 households" historical housing in Shanghai, but also a cultural symbol that carries the deep urban memory of Shanghai. However, seventy years have passed, and the original spatial environment and living pattern have gradually lagged behind modern living needs. With the proliferation of extensions and additions, the desire for urban renewal and remodeling has become increasingly urgent. Against this backdrop, this project was born.

For this project, we proposed three major enhancement strategies: "continue the historical style and strengthen the cultural connotation; enhance the functional quality and improve the service facilities; optimize the neighborhood environment and improve the landscape quality". The design focuses on the concept of no boundaries between inside and outside, and strives to create an integrated 228 neighborhood. We dig deep into the characteristic elements of the site, establish a unique brand identity, and skillfully implant historical landscape elements to show the deep cultural heritage. At the same time, we combine the concepts of sharing and gardening, and strive to create a new-age community that retains the historical flavor and is full of modern functions, from the spatial environment to the urban functions and services.
