The site is an old apartment with a substantial collection of artwork and books, necessitating a solution for extensive storage needs. Additionally, the original layout suffered from poor circulation, leading to clutter and dim lighting. To address the desire to "collect" items, the designer initially incorporated extensive cabinetry to meet the owner’s needs. Subsequently, the use of wood grain and clean color blocks presented a tidy, minimalist aesthetic. The color scheme primarily features soft wood tones, complemented by light gray and white neutrals, creating a simple yet warm atmosphere.
The project combines Scandinavian storage principles with Japanese freshness, establishing a Japandi style for the residents. Minimalism, or “decluttering,” is a key aspect of Japandi design. However, the designer believes that it is not merely about discarding everything but about using aesthetics to help residents reflect on what is truly necessary. The aim is to integrate organization into daily life within ample storage space, aligning with a thoughtful approach to living.
