2024 Taoyuan Mesona Carnival

Mesona is a herb for both dietary and medicinal purposes. Its stems and leaves, as herbal tea, is effective to reduce excessive heat in the body. Its flowers resemble lavender. Due to local climate and geographic factors, Yangmei in Taoyuan is suitable for mesona, and its agricultural outputs supply across Taiwan.
Taoyuan Mesona Carnival aims to vitalize local and industrial development. Besides growing mesona with local farmers, it also works with Industrial Technology Research Institute in Taiwan to develop new agricultural films. The new material is biodegradable in room temperature, and the schedule can be adjusted for different crops. It significantly reduces agricultural wastes, and its carbon emissions is merely 5% compared to traditional PE films.
The carnival places installations and arranges events for visitors. Accessible installations introduce local industries and sustainable agriculture. Ancillary installations are made by local teams with students and residents. In the events, local residents make afternoon tea pastries with mesona. Local associations and farms explain to visitors about growing and harvesting mesona, and various mesona use cases.
If arts festivals can be used for cultural governance, sustainable and comprehensive events in festivals can communicate public policies.
Over time, Taoyuan Mesona Carnival continues to enhance. It works with Industrial Technology Research Institute for the first time this year. Events in the festival highlight an local industry with resident participation.
