Quantum Scenery - Be Water

Brewing sake, brewing the soul ❞

Inspired by the transformation from rice to sake, this performance narrates the qualitative changes that people undergo throughout their life journey. As the sugidama is hung high, the performance becomes the yeast, starting a 15-minute soul-brewing journey within a space filled with the scent of fermentation, combining dynamic visuals, electronic sounds, and lighting in a digital storytelling experience.
Using "brewing" as an expression of imagery and life experiences as the fermentation ingredients, the soul’s gradual maturation is interpreted through four chapters: "Born," "Refinement," "Be Water My Friend," and "Equanimity." Guided by a narration, the audience steps into a misty forest to find the sake of the soul, answering four questions on a mobile device to explore the ingredients of their own soul. As the performance progresses, they resonate with the light, visuals, and sounds, fermenting and maturing together. By the end of the performance, each audience member will receive a brewing result on their mobile device, revealing the unique essence of their soul.
