Can we create a satoyama-like landscape on this land that used to be lush with greenery? With this in mind, the project was initiated. The boundary of the site was made seamless with a slope, taking advantage of the difference in elevation of the southern platform. Next, the residential zone (for walking) and the parking zone (for cars) were separated, and the eight houses were placed at a certain distance from each other to create a blank space, where more than 200 trees were planted and shared by setting easements for a walking path (garden path), a shaded area (veranda), and an area for gathering and talking (relaxing area). The initial plan suggested dividing each house into blocks, hindering inter-house communication. Moreover, the lengthy site posed parking challenges, making it hard for cars behind to maneuver, while the narrow frontage increased congestion and safety concerns. In the absence of communal spaces for children to play, they were restricted to limited garden areas. The pandemic reinforced the need for human connection, driving the aspiration for a town fostering peace, greenery, and neighborly engagement. To prevent new stresses from distance and greenery management, the design emphasized both indoor comfort and efficient maintenance.
