Sanshing Four Seasons Blue & White Pottery Studio

Yilan Sanshing is a settlement of rich historical background and distinctive culture. However, it faces the loss of agricultural land and the aging of traditional economic models. After understanding the clients’ stories and requirements, the design is planned through the composition of the space, constructing an emotional human scale, allowing the place to become a creative base of vibrant ecological fusion for the inheritance of technology and knowledge. The complete function setting and smooth flow allow the clients to implement the original idea. Using the blue and white pottery as a medium, the place has attracted many young people. The clients simplify the pottery production process and allow the public to participate in it. The space is divided into studios, classrooms, a cafe and product display areas. Multiple spaces are surrounded by a native red fruit fig-tree. The traditional sanheyuan space where the old roof was destroyed by the typhoon, the clever combination of the retained stone walls and brick walls with the new wall surface, gave the space a new visual experience. Appropriate introduction of light and methods of increasing visual penetration integrate the outdoor rural landscape with the indoor environment. The space design is based on low-key integration with the products of the studio, using recycled cypress trusses from the original roof to remake the furniture and display racks.
