Welcome to Re-landing, a unique Normandy Landing Museum at Brise-Vent in Le Havre. This immersive museum allows visitors to arrive by boat, echoing the D-Day landings, and brings new life to the site with modern activities.
The Brise-Vent structure, with its historical significance in Le Havre, presents a chance to blend heritage with fresh experiences. The museum connects seamlessly with its surroundings, forming part of a larger network that spans the industrial harbor and nearby neighborhoods. Visitors approach from downtown Le Havre, retracing paths similar to those taken by D-Day soldiers.
Inside, the original structure guides visitors along an east-west path, with perspectives that emphasize key moments from D-Day. Reflective surfaces and a metal ceiling respond to natural light, creating a dynamic atmosphere. Curved walls and floating volumes add depth to the space, while the original curved roof merges with the landscape, offering areas for activities like skateboarding and biking.
On the rooftop, blank walls serve as screens for an introductory film projected onto the curved roof and second floor. A metal mesh, inspired by Brise-Vent’s design, catches the wind, adding a unique visual element.
Floating platforms on the upper levels expand the museum experience, while a semi-open theater overlooks the waterfront. The south side of the sloped roof opens to community gathering spaces, blending modern life with the museum's historic narrative. Re-landing offers a unique balance of history and contemporary energy, making it a memorable experience.
