Light Projection Tunnel Design Project for the 100th Anniv.

The Old Caoling Tunnel, once a crucial railway passage connecting New Taipei City and Yilan, transformed its decommissioning into a scenic cycling trail in 2008. To revitalize this space rich with historical and cultural significance and to attract more visitors to explore the breathtaking landscapes of Northeast Taiwan, the event centers around three themes: "Dance of Light: The Old Caoling Tunnel" light and shadow art, "Shadows of Memory: The Elegance of Past and Present" photo exhibition, and "Echoes of Nostalgia: Where Clouds Drift" a music concert blending old and modern tunes. The project aims to boost winter tourism by integrating visual art and historical storytelling, breathing new life into the tunnel.

● Dual-Entrance Light Projection Design-The light projection designs at the southern and northern entrances of the tunnel draw inspiration from their historical plaques, showcasing the unique cultural and natural charm of Northeast Taiwan.

The Southern Entrance is themed "Where Clouds Drift – Exploring Northeast Taiwan", which pays homage to the "Where Clouds Drift" inscription on the plaque commemorating the tunnel's opening a century ago. To evoke the sensation of being amidst a sea of clouds, the design incorporates iconic Northeast Taiwan landmarks such as Turtle Island and the Tourist Service Center. Visitors are transported through a metaphorical time corridor, experiencing the seamless blend of history and modernity.

As for the Northern Entrance, it is themed "Conquering Nature – Tales of Five Waves"

This design pays tribute to the "Conquering Nature" plaque from 100 years ago. Five forms of waves (deep blue clarity, golden sunlight, pink romance, champagne twilight, and purple dreamscape) symbolize the enchanting journey within the tunnel. These visuals aim to create a sense of wonder and discovery, encapsulated in the phrase "a hidden valley revealed beyond the twists and turns."

● First-of-Its-Kind "Underwater World" Interactive Light Show-Inside the tunnel, a groundbreaking light projection show presents an ocean-themed "Underwater World." The design mimics the migration patterns of sea creatures, offering a stunning visual spectacle. Special attention has been given to making the experience engaging for children, using vivid marine imagery to spark imagination about nature and ecology.
